Small business spotlight: Jazzy Pups

We continue our series of small business spotlights with Charlie from Jazzy Pups Dog Grooming.

Tell us a bit about your business

I’m Charlie and I own a dog groomers called Jazzy Pups near Peterborough. I’ve been dog grooming for nearly 5 years after I discovered a passion for the profession. I used to work in an office dreaming of the day I can work for myself and plan my own hours - I took a leap of faith and haven’t looked back since! 

What’s the best thing about running a small business?

I love being around dogs and meeting new people, seeing owners’ faces light up when their dog has been groomed and they’re reunited is the best feeling! Planning my work around family and friends really has its benefits too. 

And what are the biggest challenges?

Sometimes working alone can be a little lonely but I have built up such an amazing client base they have more or less become friends so I love to chat to them at drop off or pick up and catch up about their lives. Another challenge would be having a guaranteed income, you can’t always bank on the fact that everyone will turn up for appointments.  

What advice would you give to someone starting a small business?

Take your time and be patient, building a business won’t happen overnight - it’s a rollercoaster of emotions but the longer you hang on, the results will make you so proud you stayed!
